Speaking in Tongues

Written by

in

Speaking in tongues involves fluid vocalizing of syllables that sound like language but lack clear, comprehensible meaning. Believers often interpret it as a divine language or a spiritual gift, while linguists classify it as structured but non-semantic vocalization.

In Christian contexts, especially Pentecostal and Charismatic traditions, it is seen as a sign of the Holy Spirit’s presence. The New Testament describes early Christians speaking in other languages during Pentecost, an event foundational to the practice.
